Lord Hannay to pay three-day visit to Cyprus
Nicosia, Jan 23 (CNA) -- Britain's representative for Cyprus Lord David
Hannay arrives here Saturday for a three-day visit, during which he will have
talks with Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides and Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf
Lord Hannay is scheduled to have a working breakfast with the President on Monday morning, followed by a meeting with Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides.
On Monday morning Hannay will also see House President Demetris Christofias and later on the same day Denktash, in the Turkish occupied part of Nicosia.
The British diplomat will also meet Turkish Cypriot party leaders and Denktash's adviser at the UN peace talks Ergun Olgun.
He will probably talk to UN Secretary General's special adviser on Cyprus Alvaro de Soto, currently engaged in intensive negotiations with the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot sides on a UN proposal with a view at finding a political settlement by the end of February.|
Hannay will arrive here from Athens, where on Friday he is due to see Foreign Minister George Papandreou.
Hannay is expected to issue a statement on departure from the island on Monday afternoon.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkish troops invaded and occupied 37% of its territory.
