EU Troika discusses Cyprus question with Turkish FM

Constantinople, Jan 31 (CNA)-- The Cyprus question was among the core issues discussed here today between the EU Troika and the Turkish Foreign Minister Yasar Yiakis.

Referring to the Cyprus problem and the Grecoturkish relations, Greek Foreign Minister and President of the European Council of Ministers George Papandreou pointed out that finding solutions will be beneficial not only for Greece and Turkey and but also for the latter's European prospect.

Papandreou was addressing a joint conference following the EU Troika meeting in Ankara.

Invited to say what is his reply to Papandreou's invitation for the commencement of negotiations between Turkey and Greece on the security aspect of the Cyprus question, Yakis said that the negotiations in Turkey on the matter are not yet concluded, adding that once they are conluded he will reply to Papandreou.|

Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkish troops invaded and occupied 37 per cent of its territory.
