Nicosia, Mar 5 (CNA) -- National Council members will accompany Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos to The Hague where the President is to meet UN Secretary General Kofi Annan on March 10, Government Spokesman Kypros Chrisostomides announced here today.

The Council, the top advisory body to the President on the handling of the Cyprus question, which met today for over four hours, exchanged views about a UN peace plan and discussed the latest developments in the Cyprus question, ahead of Monday's meeting.

The Council will reconvene on Saturday after Papadopoulos confers in Athens tomorrow with the Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis.|

''During today's meeting there was a wide exchange of views on the latest developments and in view of the UN Secretary General's invitation to meet in The Hague on March 10'', the spokesman said.

The members of the Council expressed their views and will continue the discussion at a new meeting before the Hague meeting, Chrisostomides said.

He said that each parliamentary party, comprising the National Council, will be represented in The Hague by one person. Eight parties are currently members of the Council.

Asked whether former President Glafcos Clerides will accompany President Papadopoulos to The Haque, the Spokesman said that this has not been clarified yet.

UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan has asked the two sides on the island to go to The Hague on 10 March and declare whether they are committed to hold a referendum on a peace plan for a comprehensive settlement.
