2003-03-31 13:34:31

Nicosia, Mar 28 (CNA) ? The Cyprus government said Cyprus has not been directly affected by the war in Iraq and assured that visits to the island can be considered safe both for tourism and the use of its international airports as transit points.

An official statement released here Friday because of the situation in Iraq said "there is no serious reason for concern because Cyprus is away from the war theatre operations".

It said government and relevant services are monitoring the situation and assured those who want to visit the island for holiday or other purposes that life in Cyprus continues as normal.|

The statement cites a British Foreign Office Travel Advice on Cyprus which said "Cyprus is not directly affected by the situation in Iraq. We therefore see no reason for holiday plans to be changed".
