Hadjidemetriou accepts chief negotiator post

Nicosia, Mar 31 (CNA) - Former Member of Parliament Takis Hadjidemetriou today accepted a proposal by President Tassos Papadopoulos to be appointed Head of Cyprus' Negotiating Team for Accession to the European Union.

An official press release says that in view of the conclusion of Cyprus' negotiations on all chapters of the acquis communautaire, the duties of the chief negotiator will cover the monitoring and practical safeguarding of the implementation of the acquis in the context of the monitoring procedure as provided for by the Copenhagen European Council decision.

The President's proposal will be placed before the cabinet on April 3rd for approval.|

Hadjidemetriou was elected to the House as deputy of the socialist EDEK party.
