Embassy News

2001-12-25 11:57:40

The Ambassador of Cyprus to the United States and all the Members of the Diplomatic, Press and Administrative Staff of the Embassy and their families wish to all of you the very best for the New Year for you and your families.

During this post-September 11 period, our thoughts are with the families of the victims of the horrific terrorist attacks and we want them to know that Cyprus will continue to do its utmost, along the side of the United States and the rest of the civilized world, until justice is done and until we will all be able to live in a safer world, free of terrorism and intolerance.

We all hope that the year 2002 will be a year of peace for all humanity and the year of the victory in the struggle against the scourge of terrorism.

Cyprus has stood proudly by the side of the United States and the rest of the international community in this struggle and we will continue to do so in every possible manner until terrorism in all its forms and wherever it occurs is completely eliminated.

We also hope that the year 2002 will be the year of Cyprus, the year of reunification and reconciliation, that will bring back together our country and our people in a prosperous, whole and free Cyprus for all its citizens.

As we fast approach the time of our accession to the European Union, we hope that a Cyprus settlement will be reached in 2002, so as to enable all the Cypriots to benefit from this remarkable and historic development.

We wish to thank all our American friends in the Administration, in the Congress and in the wider American society, both here in the Capital and throughout the country, for their support and for their continued interest in seeing the American principles of freedom, justice and the rule of law prevail also in the case of Cyprus.
