Solution is in Turkeys interests, says Britain
by Kyriakos Tsioupras--
London, May 26 (CNA) -- London believes that a comprehensive settlement in Cyprus on the basis of the UN plan is in Turkeys interests, Parliamentary Secretary, Ben Bradshaw, has said.
He made this statement replying on behalf of British Foreign Secretary, Jack Straw, during an extraordinary debate on the Cyprus problem at Parliament last week.|
During the debate, well-known friends of Cyprus, including MP Tom Cox, referred to developments in Cyprus, the ease in the restrictions in the freedom of movement, noting that Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash is an obstacle to a solution to the problem.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkish troops invaded and occupied 37 percent of the islands territory.
