British official regrets divided Cyprus joining EU
Nicosia, Jun 17 (CNA) - British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw has expressed the regret of his government because it was not possible for a reunited Cyprus to join the European Union. The Foreign Secretary added that the British government wishes to assist Turkey in its European course.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third.
