Cyprus government denounces bomb attack at UN in Baghdad Speaking to CNA, Iacovou said such actions are totally unacceptable and deplorable, especially when they are targeted against the UN.|

He said such actions cause "shock", noting that the UN, which is an ecumenical organisation, could help Iraq regain its sovereignty and independence.

The Foreign Minister expressed the Cyprus government and people's support to the victims and their families.

Iacovou also said he was personally shocked because of his close friendship with UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan's special representative to Iraq, Sergio Vieira de Mello.
