Government continues efforts for Rizokarpasso school
Nicosia, Sep 2 (CNA) ? The government continues efforts and representations at all levels to ensure that the Rizokarpaso school in Turkish occupied Cyprus will open this year, Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides said here today.
Chrysostomides expressed hope that the efforts will be fruitful and that the school will reopen, in spite of attempts to the contrary by the illegal Turkish Cypriot regime.
Concerning the occupied town of Famagusta, the Spokesman repeated that the fenced area of Varosha should be handed over to its legitimate inhabitants by the United Nations.
He noted that ''the government insists that the high level agreement of 1979 and the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions should be implemented.''
The UN considers Turkey responsible for the status quo in Varosha and has called on Ankara to return the occupied city to the UN which will in turn hand it over to its legal residents.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Denktash has recently proposed that Famagusta be reopened under UN supervision for Greek Cypriots to inhabit it.
