Weston in Brussels for talks on Cyprus
Brussels, Sep 3 (CNA) - US State Department Special Coordinator for Cyprus Thomas Weston is currently in Brussels, the second stop in his new tour in the context of efforts to solve the Cyprus problem.
Weston will meet in Brussels with EU officials but is not expected to see Commissioner for Enlargement Gunter Verheugen, who was in Estonia yesterday and will be visiting Latvia today and tomorrow.
The US official will also visit Rome, where he will hold talks with the Italian presidency of the EU on the Cyprus problem and after that he is expected to travel to Athens, Ankara and Cyprus.
Yesterday, Weston met at the British Foreign Office with senior officials. There were no details available about the content of the talks.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third.
