Cyprus: Sad anniversary of September 11
2003-09-11 13:24:11

Nicosia, Sep 11 (CNA) -- Cyprus Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides said today's second anniversary of the terrorist attacks against the US on 9 September 2001 is ''a sad day.'' He said it was necessary to combat international terrorism at its root and to deal with problems through dialogue.

?Today?s anniversary is a sad day, this was a tragic day. Cyprus and the whole of humanity recalls the cowardly and barbarous terrorist attacks which left thousands of people dead?, Chrysostomides said.

The spokesman extended condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the attacks and to the American people.

He said Cyprus has sided with the forces that fought international terrorism and continues to work with these forces.

?We have to strike terrorism at its root and such questions must be dealt with through multi-state cooperation, through dialogue and mutual respect of people and civilizations? he added.
