United Nations, Sep 17 (CNA) -- The UN Secretary General would once again get actively involved in efforts for a Cyprus settlement if he received from the parties some serious and credible expression of their willingness to once again negotiate for a settlement along the lines that he proposed to them on the basis ?f his plan, UN Secretary General's spokesman Fred Eckhard has said.

He noted ''that commitment is not in place from all parties at this time.''

Answering a question by a Turkish correspondent, Eckhard said that to his knowledge there is nothing new on Cyprus.

''The Secretary General has indicated that he would once again get actively involved if he received from the parties some serious and credible expression of their willingness to once again negotiate for a settlement along the lines that he proposed to them on the basis ?f his plan, but that commitment is not in place from all parties at this time,'' he added.

UN-sponsored Cyprus talks collapsed in March when Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash failed to put to a referendum Kofi Annan's peace plan.
