Cypriot FM: Turkey fails to achieve objectives at 10th OIC summit
Nicosia Oct 18 - Cyprus Minister of Foreign Affairs George Iacovou said he was pleased Turkey did not achieve its objectives at the 10th Summit of the Islamic Organization Conference held in Malaysia.
In a written statement Iacovou added, however, that the final communique of the OIC does not reflect the reality on the ground in Cyprus.
According to the final communique, OIC ''expressed satisfaction over the UN Secretary - General's plan for the settlement of the Cyprus issue''.
OIC also welcomes ''measures taken by the Turkish Cypriot part, that create a favourable atmosphere and pave the way for a comprehensive settlement.''
''Despite Turkey's efforts the communique is distinctly improved compared to what was adopted during last May's Session of the Foreign Ministers of the Islamic Conference and last month's Coordinating Meeting in the margins of UN General Assembly in New York,'' the Foreign Minister has said.
Iacovou also expressed his appreciation to the friendly member - states of the Islamic Conference for their support.
