G/C and T/C parties stress importance of Cyprus settlement
Nicosia, Dec 22 (CNA) -- Leaders or representatives of Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot political parties stressed here today the importance of the period until May 1st 2004, in order to achieve a solution to the Cyprus problem so as to allow a reunited Cyprus to join the European union.
In a joint communique after their regular meeting at the UN-controlled Ledra Palace in Nicosia, at which they exchanged views on the prospect of a solution of the Cyprus problem, they welcomed the participation of the Turkish Cypriot Solution and EU party at the meeting for the first time.
The communique was read to the press by Slovakia's Ambassador in Nicosia Jan Varso, who takes the initiative for these bicommunal political parties' meetings.
The Greek Cypriot parties, which took part, were AKEL, Democratric Rally, Democratic Party, Social Democrats EDEK Movement, United Democrats, Cyprus Green Party, Fighting Democratic Movement ADIK and Eurodemocratic Reformist Party.
The Turkish Cypriot political parties representated were Republican Turkish Party, Democratic Party, Peace and Democracy Movement and Patriotic Unity Movement.
