Pope urges parties to spare no effort in hastening Cyprus' reunification
Nicosia, Feb 22 (CNA) -- Pope John Paul II urged parties involved in Cyprus negotiations to ''spare no effort in hastening the reunification'' of Cyprus.
"The Catholic Church lends her full support to activities aimed at restoring peace and bringing about reconciliation,'' AFP quoted the Pope as saying, in his welcome remarks to Turkey's new ambassador to the Holy See, Osman Durak.
''I welcome the news of the progress being made in moving towards a just settlement of the Cyprus question,'' the Pope said.
The pontiff also stressed that the United Nations still represents the most suitable agency for confronting the grave challenges the human family of the 21st century faces.
