Cyprus FM stresses importance of dialogue in Med region
Nicosia, Dec 1 (CNA) -- Cyprus Foreign Minister George Iacovou has stressed the importance of dialogue to the development of mutual understanding between the peoples of the region and to the enhancement of their cooperation, with a view to make the Mediterranean a place of peace and prosperity.
Speaking during the plenary of the Mid-Term Ministerial Meeting of Euro-Mediterranean Ministers of Foreign Affairs, yesterday in The Hague, Iacovou made suggestions for the best use of actions to be taken in the year 2005, decided to be named ''Year for the Mediterranean'', the enhancement of dialogue between civilisations and the prevalence of freedom to this sensitive region.
An official press release issued here today said the the Meeting discussed issues regarding the evaluation of the results of the Euro-Mediterranean Cooperation achieved so far, the Dialogue between Civilisations and the Financial Reforms and Investments in the Mediterranean.
Iacovou held, on the sidelines of the Meeting, contacts with European Foreign Ministers and Foreign Ministers of Mediterranean countries.
