Annan to move on Cyprus if the two sides agree on a way forward

United Nations, Dec 24 (CNA) -- United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan would make his good offices mission available on Cyprus when the two sides agree on a way forward, Annan's spokesman Fred Eckhard said Thursday, adding that no decision on the appointment on a new UN envoy on Cyprus has been made.
Asked if Annan plans to restart his initiative to find a solution to the Cyprus problem, Eckhard reiterated Annan's statement during his visit to the European Union's Summit last Friday that he would make his good offices available when the two sides agree on a way forward.
''So I don't think there's anything new in his position'', the spokesman added.
Replying to a question about the Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Sir Kieran Prendergast being appointed mediator between the two sides in Cyprus, Eckhard said no formal announcement has been made about a new mediator.
