Cypriot Spokesman: Missing persons consist a core issue for Cyprus President
Nicosia, Jan 6 (CNA) -- Cyprus Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides has said the issue of missing persons and the ascertainment of their fate consists a core issue for Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos.
Invited to comment excavations that began yesterday to locate graves in the Turkish occupied north of the island, Chrysostomides expressed hope that this will go on ''despite the delaying tactics of the occupying authorities.
''The issue of missing persons and the ascertainment of their fate consists a core issue of the President's interest, the issue has moved forward, some agreements have been made and the role of experts from abroad has been agreed,'' he noted.
INFORCE foundation from Britain, which has agreed with the Committee of Missing Persons (CMP) to undertake exhumation work on both sides in Cyprus with regard to Turkish and Greek Cypriot missing persons, began work yesterday in the Turkish occupied village of Trahonas in Nicosia to locate graves.
