Cyprus-Hungarian Friendship Association set up
Nicosia, Jan 12 (CNA) -- A Cyprus – Hungarian Friendship Association was set up in Budapest, it was announced here.
An official statement said the association held its first meeting last week with the election of its board and adoption of its action plan.
The association aims to consolidate the already close and friendly ties between the two countries through the promotion, improvement and further strengthening of the existing cultural, social, economic and scientific exchanges, the statement added.
Cyprus’ Ambassador to Hungary George Shakalis, speaking during the first meeting of the friendship association, praised the close and friendly ties between the two countries and expressed the conviction that the association will contribute in strengthening them, especially now that the two countries are officially members of the European Union.
The director of the Cyprus department at the Hungarian Foreign Ministry, in a speech, reviewed the close bilateral relations and referred to their improvement. He also underlined the positive role which the association can play towards this goal.
Representatives of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry, the Education Ministry as well as the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the Chamber of Commerce were present at the meeting.
