New crossing point to open at Zodia
Nicosia, Feb 3 (CNA) – Cyprus Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides said that a crossing point at Zodia, following the route of the old Nicosia-Morphou road, will be open within a two month period.
Responding to questions, Chrysostomides said the new crossing point will open thanks to the Greek Cypriot side's insistence.
Noting that ''our own proposal for the immediate opening of a crossing point at Zodia has been on the table'' he said the Government was informed today on this new development by the UN.
Invited to comment on the change of the stance of the so called Turkish Cypriot prime minister Mehmet Ali Talat on the issue, he said the Turkish occupation forces were initially constructing a detour road in the Zodia - Astromeritis area, something that was rejected by the Cyprus Government.
''It seems that our insistence has prevailed'', he said.
He recalled the government's proposals to open eight new crossing points, noting that ''our proposals are still on the table.''
