Democratic Rally starts contacts in Turkey
Nicosia, Feb 9 (CNA) -- President of Cypriot opposition rightwing Democratic Rally (DISY) Nicos Anastasiades head of a party delegation begins contacts in Turkey today, at the invitation of ruling Justice and Development Party.
Speaking upon departure Anastasiades said that what delegation is carrying to Ankara is the agonies, the concerns and worries of the Greek Cypriot side as regards the need for a Cyprus settlement.
''DISY is the carrier of what every Cypriot would like the leadership in Ankara to listen to'', Anastasiadis said.
He added that during his stay in Turkey, he will be received by the country's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and will meet with Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullah Gul and officials from the Justice and Development Party. Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew will also receive the delegation.
The talks in Turkey, he added, will focus on the relations of the two parties especially after the Justice and Development Party was recently accepted in the ranks of the European People's Party as an observer, the Cyprus problem, and the whole range of bilateral relations, as they emerge through Cyprus' accession to the EU and the European Council's decision to commence EU accession negotiations with Turkey.
''A European Cyprus must pursue dialogue, we believe that Turkey's European perspective, the efforts made by the Turkish Premier must be helped in order to have positive resultsť, said Anastasiades.
Noting that DISY through the European People's Party will help as much as possible Turkey's European course, Anastasiades stressed that this path passes through the abolition of the Green Line in Cyprus.
Later today Anastasiades will give a lecture at the ''Istanbul Policy Centre''.
