Cyprus FM: Every country must set up its own antiterrorism unit
Nicosia, Mar 11 (CNA) -- Cyprus Foreign Minister George Iacovou said that every country must set up its own antiterrorism unit.
In his intervention yesterday to the International Summit on Democracy, Terrorism and Security, organized in Madrid by the organisation ''Club de Madrid'', where he represented Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos, Iacovou said the danger emerging from the globalisation of terrorism, that has as a result our disorientation from the real threat since we tend to consider responsible for combating terrorism either the superpowers or international organisations, ignoring the role of each country and of each of us.
He also noted that to the struggle against terrorism, we have falsely identified it with Islam, something that consists injustice.
He said that terrorism today is very much different than the one in 1960 and 1970, since then each terrorist was ready to negotiate, whereas today he is ready to kill and to die. This fact, he continued, must worry us and urge us to seek for its reasons.
The Summit wrapped up yesterday with the official dinner hosted by the Spanish Foreign Minister in the honor of the foreign governments' representatives.
