London, Mar 13 (CNA) --- Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul will meet here Monday his British counterpart Jack Straw to discuss the Cyprus issue, Turkey's commitment to sign the protocol to its custom union agreement with the European Union, extending it to all ten new members including Cyprus, and other matters regarding Ankara's relations with the EU.
Diplomatic circles have pointed to the importance of the meeting since Britain will take over the EU six-monthly rotating presidency in July and the start of Turkey's accession negotiations in October 2005 will coincide with London's presidency.
During his visit to the British capital, Gul will deliver a speech at the London School of Economics entitled ''Turkey and the EU, the way towards progress.'' He will also visit an exhibition at the Royal Academy of Art about the Ottoman Empire.
