United Nations, Mar 15 (CNA) -- Cyprus' Permanent Representative at the UN Andreas Mavroyiannis has been unanimously elected Chairman of the Special Committee for the Constitutional Charter of the UN and for the Strengthening of the Role of the international organisation.
The Special Committee, which will convene on March 14 to 24, was set up at the 30th session of the UN General Assembly with a view to look into suggestions and proposals regarding the Charter and the strengthening of the UN's role, the consolidation of international peace and security, the development of cooperation among all states and the promotion of the rules of international law.
The Committee, which convenes every year in the framework of the General Assembly with the participation of all member-states, is one of the most serious committees, comprising legal advisors or experts on international affairs, from the diplomatic missions or capitals.
