UN Secretary General to visit Cyprus
Nicosia, May 8 (CNA) -- UN Secretary General Kofi Annan will arrive in
Cyprus on 14 May for a three-day visit.
CNA has learned that Annan will hold separate meetings on 15 May with Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides and Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash.
Later on he will hold a joint meeting with the leaders of the two communities on the island and have dinner with them at the residence of Deputy Special Representative in Cyprus Zbigniew Wlosowicz.
On 16 May, Annan will pay a visit to the UN Peace Keeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) installations and later on the same day he will leave the island.|
The leaders of the two communities have been engaged in UN-led direct talks since mid-January this year with a view to negotiating in good faith until a comprehensive settlement is reached.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkish troops invaded and occupied its northern third.
