Jordan respects UN resolutions on Cyprus
Nicosia, Mar 31 (CNA) -- Jordan respects and supports all UN resolutions and that it would in no case violate its international obligations regarding the UN resolutions.
The Jordanian stance was set out by the country's Foreign Minister Hani Fawzi Mulki at a meeting yesterday in Amman with his Cypriot counterpart George Iacovou.
The Cypriot minister briefed his Jordanian counterpart on the latest developments in the Cyprus problem in relation to the Organisation of the Islamic Conference.
According to an official press release issued here, Iacovou's meetings in Amman were in the context of Cyprus' regular talks with countries of the region, after Cyprus' accession to the EU and the role it can play in the region.
The Jordanian Minister congratulated Iacovou on Cyprus' EU membership, which he described as a very positive development for the region, due to the history and close ties of Cyprus with all the countries and peoples of the region.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the excellent level of bilateral relations, as well as their readiness to further enhance and expand them, especially in the commercial and economic sectors.
The two Ministers also discussed regional problems with special emphasis on the Middle East question and the prospects of the peace process, the situation in Iraq and the latest developments in Lebanon.
Iacovou returned home last night.
