Brutal attack against enclaved woman in occupied Cyprus
Nicosia, Apr 12 (CNA) -- The UN has informed the Cyprus government over the brutal attack against an old Greek Cypriot enclaved woman in the Turkish-occupied northern part of the island, Presidential Commissioner Polakis Sarris revealed here today.
The Cypriot official said that 70-year-old woman Andriana Anastasis, from Leonarisso village, was brutally beaten by three intruders in her house, Turkish Cypriots or Turkish settlers, who then robbed her.
Sarris added that the UN were investigating the case.
He added that Turkish Cypriot doctors visited the woman but he was not aware whether she was taken to a hospital.
Responding to questions, Sarris said that the government was making efforts to bring the woman to the free areas of the Republic for treatment.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkish troops invaded and occupied 37 per cent of its territory.
