Spokesman: Palestinians should leave by Wednesday
Nicosia, May 12 (CNA) -- Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou has
said that the 13 Palestinians, hosted here after the end of the siege of the
Church of Nativity in Bethlehem, should leave by Wednesday at the latest.
"According to the agreed arrangement which ended the siege of the Church of Nativity, the 13 Palestinians we are playing host to temporarily, should leave Cyprus in the first days of this week, specifically Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest," Papapetrou told CNA today.
The 13 Palestinians arrived on the island Friday morning amid strict security measures. Twelve of them are staying at a local seaside hotel under police guard, for their own protection. One is in hospital where he underwent surgery as a result of injuries he sustained during the siege.
Cyprus has received assurances that the European Union that the General Affairs Council, meeting Monday, will decide on the final destination of the Palestinians.|
