Israel rejects reports over official visit to occupied areas
Nicosia, Apr 26 (CNA) -- No official Israeli trade delegation is scheduled to visit the Turkish-occupied northern part of Cyprus, according to the Israeli Embassy in Nicosia.
Revital Malca, Commercial Attache at the Israeli Embassy, told CNA today that she had contacted the Israeli Embassy in Ankara and informed Israel too about relevant press reports and found out “that there is no such thing” as regards to an official delegation visiting the occupied north, nor any diplomat is involved.
Reports in the Turkish press yesterday suggested that an Israeli official trade delegation was scheduled to visit the illegal state in the Turkish-occupied northern part of Cyprus, in an effort to revive relations between Israel and Turkey.
Malca clarified that the Israeli Embassy could not exercise control over any private delegation visiting the island's occupied areas.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkish troops invaded and occupied 37 per cent of its territory.
