Nicosia, May 14 (CNA) -- British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw has warmly welcomed UN Secretary General Kofi Annan's visit to Cyprus.

Straw said Annan's visit, starting today, "is a timely contribution to the process launched by the two leaders in Cyprus", and reiterated Britain's support to the UN-led peace talks process, which started in mid-January 2002.

"The Cyprus problem has gone on too long. It is time we saw decisive steps towards a settlement", Straw said.|
