Cyprus International Fair to open next week
Nicosia, May 10 (CNA) - The 30th Cyprus International Fair will open its gates on May 20, providing a nine-day opportunity to Cypriots and other nationals living on the island to get the latest news in technology, commerce and industry.
Speaking to a press conference here today, Loris Trifon, Chairman of the State Fairs Authority, said that this year's Fair, the second after Cyprus' accession to the European Union (EU), will also include Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce with 50 participants, alongside 300 exhibitors who represent 1.500 companies from overseas.
''We welcome them and we assure them that they are indeed welcome in all our exhibitions with all the facilities and help that we extend equally to all our exhibitors from Cyprus,'' Trifon added, noting that the Turkish Cypriot exhibitors will take up a total of 980 square metres of the Fair's 40.000 square metres installations.
The official opening of the Fair will take place on May 19 by Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos, in the presence of members of the Cabinet, MPs, members of the diplomatic corps and other dignitaries.
Trifon reiterated the Authority's ''vision to transform it into the main conference and exhibition centre of our wider region.''
Accession to the EU can help the promotion of Cyprus as a commercial centre in this region, as the country had been in the past, he said.
''Our geographical position is a point of contact of three continents and our official connection with the EU forms a valuable capital that we are going to utilise for the realisation of far-reaching strategic plans,'' he added.
