Cyprus Foreign Minister to pay an official visit to Israel
Nicosia, May 13 (CNA) -- Cyprus Foreign Minister George Iacovou will hold talks with the Israeli government as well as with leaders of the Palestinian Authority during an official visit he will pay to Israel, May 16 - 17, at the invitation of his Israeli counterpart Silvan Shalom.
CNA has learned that Iacovou's visit will be paid in the framework of Cyprus' policy to act as a bridge between Europe and the Middle East. Among the issues to be discussed will be the Cyprus problem, bilateral affairs and regional issues of mutual concern.
According to the program of his visit, Iacovou departs for Tel Aviv on Sunday evening and on Monday midday he will hold talks with his Israeli counterpart. The talks will be followed by a press conference.
Earlier Cyprus Minister will lay a wreath at the Martyrs' and Heroes' memorial of the holocaust.
Monday afternoon Iacovou will hold separate meetings in the Knesset with Head of the opposition party Yosef Lapid, Minister of Industry, Trade and Labor Ehud Olmer and Vice Prime Minister Shimon Peres.
At 1700 local time he is scheduled to meet with President of the state of Israel Moshe Katsav.
On Tuesday Cyprus Minister will depart to Ramallah where at 0915 he will meet with Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Ahmad Qurei and Speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council Rawhi Fatooh.
He will later on give three interviews to Israeli Media.
Iacovou will be accompanied by Director of the Minister's Office Pavlos Anastasiades and First Secretary Evagelos Savva.
He returns home Wednesday morning.
