Arab League supports efforts for Cyprus settlement
Nicosia, May 24 (CNA) -- Director General of the Arab League Amr Mousa has reiterated the League's steadfast support to the efforts of the Cypriot government to achieve a just and viable solution to the Cyprus problem, that would be based on international law and would take into account relevant UN resolutions.
According to an official press release issued here, the Arab League's position on the Cyprus problem was reaffirmed during a meeting yesterday between Mousa and the Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Permanent Secretary Sotos Zackheos, who is visiting Cairo.
At the meeting, Zackheos briefed Mousa in depth on latest developments in the Cyprus problem, focusing on the government's measures to help the Turkish Cypriot community.
They also exchanged views on current developments in the wider region and determined common positions and assessments, especially regarding efforts to reach a settlement in the Middle East question. Mousa thanked Cyprus for its steadfast support in this direction.
Zackheos returned to Cyprus yesterday.
