Cyprus respects fully result of Dutch vote on EU Constitution
Nicosia, Jun 2 (CNA) -- The government of Cyprus respects fully the result of the Dutch vote on the European Union Constitution, Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides said here today.
''We hope that this will not delay moves towards European integration'' he said, adding that all partners must analyse in detail the reasons that lie behind the no vote of the Dutch people and examine its repercussions.
He said Cyprus believes that the process of ratification of the Constitution must continue.
He noted that this month's European Council, 16-17, provides a first good opportunity to do just that.
Chrysostomides said Nicosia has taken note of the statements made by the heads of various EU members that the ratification process of the European Constitution must continue.
''We agree with this approach,'' he added.
He explained that the Cyprus House of Representatives will discuss the ratification of the Constitution on 29 and 30 June.
