Cyprus FM: Protocol will be immediately endorsed
Nicosia, Jun 10 (CNA) -- Cyprus Minister of Foreign Affairs George Iacovou believes that the additional protocol regarding Turkey's customs union with the ten new EU member states, including Cyprus, will be adopted at once by the EU Foreign Ministers meeting on Brussels next Monday.
The Protocoll was examined by the member states' permanent representatives, who prepared the approval by the EU Foreign Ministers, while its signing by all parties is scheduled to take place at the end of June or during the first days of July the latest.
The Foreign Minister said that he will depart Sunday for Luxembourg, where he will attend the General Affairs and External Relations Council which will examine the EU economic perspectives.
Responding to questions on the conclusions of the European Council, currently prepared by the Ministers, Iacovou said that as regards Turkey, the Cyprus government wishes to include some points in the document.
The issue will be brought up again for discussion on Monday at the Council, he said.
The FM believes that discussion on the French and Dutch referenda will prevail at the Council's meeting.
