OPCW workshop in Cyprus on Chemical Weapons Convention
Nicosia, Jun 15 -- The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) organised a three-day workshop in Nicosia on the Chemical Weapons Convention which has already been signed by the Republic of Cyprus. The workshop ended on Wednesday.
Cyprus Minister of Labor and Social Insurance Christos Taliadoros said that part of the responsibilities of the Ministry's Inspection Department is to track Cypriot industries that produce or use chemical products that could be used for the making of chemical weapons.
''The Ministry's Department informs the OPCW about the data it collects, which are then being included in the archive of the Organisation'', he said.
The delegates at the OPCW workshop in Nicosia discussed, among other issues, the steps towards the implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention in the Mediterranean basin, the Middle East and the neighbouring countries, as well as the promotion of the peaceful use of chemistry.
