EU Special Advisor for Cyprus arrives for talks
Nicosia, Jun 25 (CNA) ---- Special Advisor for Cyprus to the European Union Commissioner for Enlargement, Jaako Blomberg, will hold on Monday a series of meetings on the island regarding the Cyprus problem, the EU as well as the UN role in the efforts to reach a political settlement.
A spokesman of the European Commission Representation in Nicosia has told CNA that Ambassador Blomberg will be received by Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos and meet with President of the House of Representatives Demetris Christofias and Foreign Minster George Iacovou.
During his first visit to the island in his new capacity, Blomberg will also hold separate meetings with Greek Cypriot political party leaders and will cross into the Turkish occupied areas for talks with Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat.
''Ambassador Blomberg will mainly come to listen to views about Cyprus, the EU and UN role and the prospects to resume the negotiations. Later on he will report to Commissioner Olli Rehn'', the spokesman said.
The Finnish diplomat leaves Cyprus late on Tuesday. Blomberg has served in the past as Finland's Cyprus envoy.
