Cyprus FM to participate in EU General Affairs meeting
Nicosia, July 17 (CNA) – Cypriot Foreign Minister George Iacovou is in Brussels to participate in the General Affairs and External Relations Council of the European Union.
The Council will hold a debate on EU issues and the working programme of the Council for the second half of 2005 as well as the priorities of the UK presidency.
The 25 ministers of foreign affairs will also exchange views on the current political situation in the Middle East, Iraq, Iran, Syria and Lebanon.
The Council will also discuss the enlargement of the European Union (Croatia, Turkey) and the competent Commissioner Olli Rehn will present the proposed negotiable frame of the accession talks with Turkey.
Iacovou will represent Cyprus in the informal meeting of the EU ministers of Commerce to be held Monday evening, which will examine a series of matters concerning the World Trade Organisation and the Doha Development Agenda.
