Egyptian Petroleum Minister arrives in Cyprus
Larnaca, Jul 18 (CNA) - Egyptian Minister of Petroleum Amin Sameh Samir Fahmi arrived on the island on Monday for a three-day official visit, pledging his commitment to sign a protocol of cooperation with Cyprus.
In statements on his arrival, Fahmi thanked Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism George Lillikas for inviting him and said he is in full agreement for cooperation between the two countries.
''We are talking about the cooperation for some time now and I think that it is time to become more practical,'' he said and ensured that ''I have the intention and the commitment to sign a protocol to start working as soon as possible.''
Welcoming the Egyptian Minister, Lillikas said the visit is a continuation of his visit to Egypt a few weeks ago, adding that Cyprus has begun ''a very close cooperation with the friendly government of Egypt.''
He also said there are many issues that involve both ministries that ''allow us to develop cooperation on many levels.''
Fahmi will be received by President Tassos Papadopoulos and House of Representatives President Demetris Christofias.
He will visit the Power Station at Vassilikos, where he will meet General Manager of the Cyprus Electricity Authority, and the Vassilikos area where an Energy Centre (Liquefied Natural Gas Receiving Terminal) will be constructed.
He will leave Cyprus on Wednesday.
