Nicosia, Aug 17 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos leaves today for talks in Athens with the Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis, on issues of national interest.

The two leaders will meet Thursday lunchtime.

The visit, which was announced last week, takes place in the aftermath of Sunday's air crash of an Helios Boeing 737 that killed all 121 people on board, most of them Cypriots.

Papadopoulos and Karamanlis will have a private meeting before they are joined by their respective delegations for talks during a working lunch.

The Athens meeting is part of the regular exchange of views between the two governments, ahead of a discussion in Brussels among European Union members of Turkey's European aspirations.
