UNFICYP’s new police contingents raise flags
Nicosia, Sep 1 -- The number of contingents serving with UNFICYP’s
United Nations Police component has reached eight with the arrival of the Italian and the Bosnian, last month.
A joint flag-raising ceremony was held at UNFICYP's Nicosia UNPA Headquarters by members of the Italian and Bosnian police contingents to mark the occasion of their arrival.
Attending were Special Representative of the Secretary-General and UNFICYP Chief of Mission Zbigniew Wlosowicz, Force Commander Major General Hebert Figoli and Senior Police Adviser Carla van Maris, Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nedeljho Maslesa, Italian Embassy Charge d'Affaires Dr. Pierluigi Trombetta and Rt. Rev. Fr. Umberto Barato, OFM, Apostolic Nunciature, representing the Holy See.
The current strength of the mission's UNPOL component is 59, 10 short of the Security Council-mandated ceiling of 69 police.
UNFICYP's other UNPOL contingents comprise police from Argentina, Australia, Croatia, India, Ireland and the Netherlands.
