Three day mourning for officers killed in military plane crash
Nicosia, Sep 12 (CNA) -- Cyprus National Guard has decided to observe a three day mourning after the crash of a small training plane on September 10, which resulted in the death of two military officers, Flight Lieutenant Ferreos Kouloumos and Flank Officer Fotis Constantinou.
A press release issued by the Defence Ministry said that during the three day mourning, September 11-13, flags would be flown at half mast at all military campuses, observation posts and other National Guard installations.
All scheduled National Guard celebration events and functions are cancelled for the duration of the mourning.
A Special Investigative Committee has undertaken the task of conducting a probe that will look into the cause of the air crash.
A post mortem examination on the bodies of the two officers, killed in the crash, was concluded yesterday afternoon.
Coroner Sophoklis Sophokleous said they died on impact and the death was caused by multiple injuries.
He said the two bodies were semi-charred and not recognisable and for their official identification DNA tests will be carried out.
