Athens Mayor and Chinese FM discuss Cyprus problem
Athens, Sep 28 (CNA) -- Developments in the Cyprus question and prospects for a settlement were discussed during a meeting in Beijing between the Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing and the Mayor of Athens Dora Bakoyianni.
Asked if China could examine soon at the UN Security Council a new initiative on Cyprus, the Chinese Foreign Minister reiterated that China always respects the Security Council's relevant decisions and assured that his country will continue to play a constructive role on this issue.
''I would say Cyprus is indeed another good friend of China. And I wish that a proper settlement is reached the soonest possible and the people there have a prosperous life,'' he added, noting that ''as a Security Council permanent member China always respects its relevant decisions and we will continue to play a constructive role on this issue.''
