European Parliament President to pay official visit to Cyprus
Nicosia, Sep 30 (CNA) -- President of the European Parliament Josep Borrell will be officially visiting Cyprus from October 3 to 6, a press release issued by the European Parliament Cyprus Information Office said.
During his stay on the island, Borrell will hold meetings both in the government-controlled areas with government and House of Representative officials, as well as political party leaders, and in the Turkish occupied areas with the Turkish Cypriot leadership and political party leaders.
He will also address an extraordinary session of the Cyprus House and will meet with Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in Cyprus and UNFICYP Chief Zbigniew Wlosowicz.
Borrell will arrive in Cyprus on Monday, October 3, at 1850 local time. He will be welcomed at the Airport by Cyprus House President Demetris Christofias.
During his stay in Cyprus, he will meet with President Tassos Papadopoulos, Christofias, the Chairman and members of the House Committee on European Affairs, the leaders or representatives of the Greek-Cypriot political parties and Minister of Foreign Affairs George Iacovou. He will also address the House of Representatives, which will hold an extraordinary session to this end on Tuesday, October 2005.
On October 5, Borrell will visit Cyprus' Turkish occupied areas and will have a meeting with Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat, as well as the leaders of the Republican Turkish Party and the Democratic Party, Ferdi Sabit Soyer and Serdar Denktash, respectively. Furthermore, he will participate in a round table meeting with the Turkish-Cypriot civil society.
On the same day he will also meet with Wlosowicz.
On Thursday morning he will give a bicommunal press conference at Ledra Palace.
