Cyprus and Egypt sign cooperation agreement on science and techology
Nicosia, Oct 10 (CNA)--- Cyprus and Egypt signed today a Memorandum of Cooperation in the areas of science and technology.
The agreement, that was signed by Cypriot Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism George Lillikas and Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr Amr Ezzat Salama, includes cooperation between scientists from both countries, the development of common programmes, as well as their financing by the European Union.
Both Ministers underlined their excellent bilateral relations and did not exclude the possibility of further enhancing their cooperation, especially in the academic field.
''We aim to develop our cooperation in all fields and function as a bridge uniting Europe with the Middle East countries, by taking into consideration not only the European interests, but also the interests of the neighboring countries'', Lillikas noted after the signing ceremony.
He added that the agreement includes the establishment of technical committees for the development of common programmes, and their submission to the European Union for financing. It also includes cooperation of scientists from both countries and a possibility to enlarge the cooperation in the academic fields.
Visiting Minister described the agreement signed today as a step that would lead to more welfare and development of both countries.
He also said that a letter of intend for cooperation has been signed between Cyprus, Egypt and the International Institute that was founded in Cyprus with Harvard University. The agreement, that is expected to be signed by more countries in the future, determines the cooperation framework in the areas of public health.
