US President to nominate new Ambassador to Cyprus

Washington, Sep 15 (CNA) -- US President George Bush intends to nominate Ronald Schlicher as ambassador to the Republic of Cyprus, a White House statement says.
Schlicher is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service and most recently served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs and Coordinator for Iraq. Prior to that, he served as Director of the Iraq Task Force and as a senior political advisor for the Coalition Provisional Authority in Baghdad, Iraq.
Earlier in his career Schlicher also served as Chief of Mission and Consul General in Jerusalem. He has also served as Director of the Office of Egyptian and North African Affairs and Deputy Chief of Mission in Beirut.
