CEMR seminar organized in Cyprus
Nicosia, Nov 2 (CNA) – The Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) organizes November 4 – 5 in Limassol, in cooperation with the Union of Cyprus Municipalities, the second seminar for a European Charter for Equality of Women and Men at Local and Regional Level.
A press release issued by the Union of Cyprus Municipalities said that the basic goal of this seminar is to discuss the content of the draft charter, which will take its final form during the third and final meeting to be held in February 2006.
President of the Union of Cyprus, Mayor of Limassol Demetris Kontides, Member of Nicosia City Council and President of the Committee of women elected representatives of the Union of Cyprus Municipalities Eleni Loucaides, Minister of Justice and Public Order Doros Theodorou, Head of Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus Themis Themistocleous, CEMR Secretary General Jeremy Smith and President of the CEMR Committee of women elected representatives of local and regional authorities Vicenta Bosch Palanca will address the opening session of the seminar.
During the seminar round table discussion on women’s participation in politics in Mediterranean and Southern European countries will be organized.
The first seminar for the Charter took place in Bilbao in June 2005 and agreed the fundamental principles of the Charter. Since then a preparation of the draft Charter has taken place.
