Cyprus supports efforts for sovereign-independent Palestinian state
Nicosia, Dec 7 (CNA) – Cyprus supports efforts in the Middle East peace process to establish a sovereign, independent and viable Palestinian state that will function side by side with Israel, under conditions of peace and security, Cyprus Foreign Ministry Permanent Secretary Sotos Zackheos has said.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of Palestinian Senior Police Officers from Cyprus Police Academy, Zackheos said Cyprus will continue to support these efforts, because they are of vital importance to the process of rendering the region into an area of peace, prosperity and cooperation.
Zackheos referred to the excellent relations between Cyprus and Middle East countries and to the strong friendship bonds with the Palestinian people.
He said this is the second group of Palestinian Senior Police Officers participating in a vocational seminar.
These seminars, lasting for four weeks, are part of a Strategic Development programme applied by Cyprus, which involves Palestine as well, Zackheos said, adding that this is tangible proof of Cyprus’ engagement and determination to contribute to the implementation of the Palestinian Authority Development Programme.
The programme will continue this month with a vocational seminar of a 20 member group of Palestinian senior civil servants at the Public Administration Academy.
