Cyprus plays a significant role in the area, says US Ambassador
Nicosia, Dec 10 (CNA)- Cyprus plays a significant role in the Eastern Mediterranean region as a member of the European Union, including that against terrorism, new US Ambassador to the Republic Ronald Schlicher has said.
Schlicher was speaking during a visit to the American Hellenic Institute (AHI) in Washington, where he met with the Institute's leadership.
A press statement of AHI said the Institute's leadership had the opportunity to express views on issues of common interest concerning the relations between Cyprus and USA with emphasis on the Cyprus problem.
The Ambassador pointed out that it was very important to have Cyprus being the first country in signing the Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI) Ship Boarding Agreement.
He expressed interest to keep in close touch with AHI and the Greek American Community regarding the Cyprus problem.
AHI President Gene Rossides said the Ambassador was authentic and open minded to the Cyprus problem, the press release added.
